CHARLIE MURPHY rapidly evolved from being a "Chappelle's Show" cast member to top-billed international comedian, playing for the past nine years to sold-out audiences around the globe, performing his critically acclaimed stand-up show.
At the start of his stand-up career, he embarked on the national "I'm Rich Bitch" comedy tour, featuring fellow "Chappelle's Show" cast members Bill Burr and Donnell Rawlings, "Charlie Murphy and Friends" and a co-headlining tour with Mike Epps followed. Murphy also co-headlined the 20-city "Maxim/Bud Light Real Men of Comedy Tour" with Joe Rogan.
Murphy has worked with top Hollywood talent such as Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Eddie Murphy, Forrest Whitaker, Danny Aiello, Terrance Howard, Gabrielle Union, Queen Latifah, Vanessa Williams, Rip Torn, Peter Falk, Redd Foxx, Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, Jamie Foxx, Samuel Jackson and Sammy Davis Jr.
Feature films have included "Our Family Wedding," "A Perfect Holiday," "Kings Ransom," "Roll Bounce," Chris Rock's classic hip-hop parody "B4," Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever" and "Mo' Betta Blues," and Eddie Murphy's "Harlem Nights" as well as "Vampire in Brooklyn," on which Charlie Murphy was credited as a writer,
Another of Murphy's film writing endeavors, "Norbit," opened #1 at the box office and grossed over $159M. Additional writing credits include a remake of "The Incredible Shrinking Man," "Paper Soldiers," and "Tales of the Dogg," an animated pilot for Snoop Dogg and MTV. Other projects include Adult Swim's "Boondocks" animated series and "Freaknik The Musical," "BET's controversial "We Gotta Do Better," and films such as "Unearthed," "Night at the Museum" and "The Hustle."
Murphy wrote, produced and starred in "Charlie Murphy's Crash Comedy," a series of webisodes for Sony Entertainment's Crackle.com. His web presence is additionally bolstered by a multi-media advertising campaign for Nike's Jordan Brand, featuring Murphy as long time Jordan nemesis/inspiration Leroy Smith. Murphy's autobiographical book, The Making of a Stand Up Guy, was published by Simon and Schuster in December 2009.
Charlie has appeared on Lopez Tonight, Howard Stern, the Monique Show and Joy Behar Show promoting his book and his live stand-up special/DVD, "Charlie Murphy: I Will Not Apologize," which premiered on Comedy Central in the #1 slot and was the #1 iTunes Comedy title.
